Please attend: June 5th Public Hearing at Plainfield High School on the Closing of Muhlenberg Hospital
In response to the to the overwhelming turnout of nearly 1,500 people at the first public hearing, the New Jersey State Health Planning Board will have a second public hearing on the possible closure of Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield, New Jersey.

The public hearing on Muhlenberg hospital will take place Thursday, June 5, 2008, 6:00 p.m. at Plainfield High School, 950 Park Avenue in Plainfield, New Jersey. On that same day, there will also be a protest against the closing of the hospital in front of the high school beginning at 4:30 p.m.

If Muhlenberg is closed the city of Plainfield, a multiracial urban community with a predominantly African-American population, will lose its only hospital which treats more than 35,000 patients a year. Muhlenberg is the largest employer in Plainfield. If the hospital is closed nearly 1,000 people will lose their jobs.

The People's Organization For Progress (POP) is asking everyone to attend the demonstration and public hearing, oppose the closure of Muhlenberg, and urge the board to keep it open as a full service acute-care hospital.
