Dear Friends,

The Malcolm Bernard HBCU College Fair will be held the week of November 12-18, 2011; this is the 13th year for the event.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth (parents) to meet over 40 admissions counselors from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  We want our youth to continue with their education after completing high school and they should know that an HBCU is a positive option for higher education.
On September 13, 2011 President Obama said “Our success in the 21st century economy is going to depend almost entirely on having a skilled workforce, how well trained are young people are; we cannot reach that goal without HBCUs.”
The Malcolm Bernard HBCU College Fair is the largest event of its kind in the northeast.  Annually over 12,000 students from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Delaware attend this event.  Because of the success of the Fair, it is supported by the New Jersey Department of Education.
Although school districts around the state participate in the annual event there are still many school counselors that do not inform our students of this opportunity.  If your high school does not plan to take our students to the HBCU college Fair, then it’s up to you… the parent, the legal guardian, the youth advisor and youth ministries in our church’s to make sure our youth do not miss out on this mega event.
Is your student registered to attend this cultural phenomenon?
All groups and students should register on the Internet at http://www.hbcu-cfnj.com.  After completing the student registration form on the website students should print their admittance pass and bring it to the fair.  (Obtain registration instructions and additional information from the HBCU Week flyer.)
Always Encourage Our Youth,
Ted
