National NAACP 05-30-2010: (Hollywood, Fla.) -- The tea party movement sweeping the U.S. political landscape has benefited from voter mobilization techniques pioneered by the NAACP, and the nation's oldest civil rights organization needs to rely on that outreach to fight back in the midterm elections, two NAACP leaders said Saturday.

Today the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the City of Chicago can be held accountable for each and every time it used a hiring practice that arbitrarily blocked qualified minority applicants from employment.

"I ask our governor, when our school system is trying to teach anti-bullying, to stop being the biggest bully in the state," Harris said as the crowd cheered.
NJ NAACP 05-20-2010: TRENTON — Princeton scholar Cornel West asked his audience today to raise their hands if they ever made a mistake. Given that his venue was the maximum security New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, many hands went up. "I know some of you have made some very bad mistakes. But that doesn’t fundamentally determine who you are," West said. "Your potential can never be snuffed out." About 100 inmates sat on folding chairs in the prison gymnasium as West urged them to "deal with the funk" in their lives and urged public officials to help inmates make the transition back to life outside of prison walls. "I come here to learn. I come here to listen," said West, whose visit was sponsored by local chapters of the NAACP. "Most importantly I’m here because I love you."
